How many times have you condemned an expansion valve or check valve and had an uneasy feeling inside? This class will give you the basics of refrigeration theory to refresh your memory and to underscore your knowledge of the workings of the refrigerant cycle. What you already know about refrigerant systems will be augmented to form a complete picture and enable you to easily solve refrigerant system problems that others consider difficult.

SE-420  Understanding Wiring Diagrams - 2 nights
So many service technicians work harder than necessary to diagnose electrical problems because they do not have a complete understanding of how wiring diagrams reveal a systems’ inner workings. This class will make the participant more productive while enabling him to relax and be more comfortable with his diagnosis. By the end of this class, you will be able to draw a complete heat pump wiring diagram from scratch. All advanced technicians read wiring diagrams fluently. You can too.

LE-100  Heat Pump Electrical Controls Lab - 2 nights

We provide electrical trainers to simulate the electrical challenges encountered in the field.  In this class most of the student's time is spent working with the electrical trainers so retention is much higher than in a typical seminar.  Learn to wire a heat pump from scratch with and without wiring diagrams. Additionally, learn the fundamentals of circuitry, how to troubleshoot shorts, and the fastest ways to troubleshoot a system.

SG-330  Understanding Furnaces - 2 Nights
Learn how natural gas furnaces work. Learn the fundamentals of gas burner operation to enable you to recognize whether or not a furnace is operation properly. Easily diagnose and repair improper combustion problems like sooting, delayed ignition, noisy burners lifting flames, lazy flames and roll out. Also learn what makes a furnace vent properly and how to diagnose venting problems.

SE-400  Troubleshooting H/P Defrost Controls - 2 nights
Take the mystery out of defrost controls. This class covers the operation, testing, set up, and diagnosis of the most commonly used controls from the early Electro-mechanical controls through the latest solid state boards. If you have ever had any doubts about whether a defrost system was working properly, this is the class for you.

SR-800  Proper Refrigerant Charging - 2 nights
This charging class is structured to review and evaluate all the charging techniques that your service technicians are currently using. Your technicians will be surprised to learn that some of their most utilized charging techniques are actually some of the least effective. In addition, your technicians will learn new techniques that are at the heart of optimal charging as well as performance, efficiency, and reliability issues brought on by an improper charge. By applying the procedures outlined in this class, your crew can save money by preventing costly callbacks.

SM-520  Troubleshooting Variable Speed Motors - 1 night

Variable speed motors are becoming more and more prevalent in the air conditioning industry.  Chances are your techs are running into these motors on a weekly basis if not more often.  Although these motors can be perplexing to some they are actually quite easy to troubleshoot with the proper training. Learn to understand these motors inside and out. Also learn to set-up and troubleshoot them regardless of whether they are in an Amana, Coleman, Trane, American Standard, Carrier, or any other brand of equipment.

SM-500  Proper Application of Fan Motors, Blades, and Blowers - 1
night
Have you ever had a problem applying an indoor or outdoor motor to an air conditioner? Have you ever had difficulty replacing a 3-wire motor with a 4-wire motor? Have you ever had to replace a motor without adequate information about the defective motor? Have you ever wondered how to tell if a run capacitor is weak? Have you ever had a motor fail shortly after you installed it? If you’ve had these or any other problems with motors, this is the class for you.

SG-310  Troubleshooting Gas Ignition Controls - 2 nights
Learn how pilot safeties and ignition systems work starting with natural draft furnaces up through the new 80% furnaces with furnace controllers. Learn how to diagnose and repair thermocouples, liquid filled, bimetal, and flame rectification pilot safeties as well as glow coil, spark, and hot surface ignition systems. This class makes repairing furnaces a snap.

SG-300  Troubleshooting Gas Combustion Problems - 2 nights
Learn how natural gas furnaces work. Learn gas burner operation to enable you to recognize whether or not a furnace is operating properly. Easily diagnose and repair improper combustion problems like sooting, delayed ignition, noisy burners, and roll out. Also learn what makes a furnace vent and how to diagnose venting problems. Protect your customers safety by understanding the dangers of a malfunctioning heating system.

SE-440  Why Compressors Fail & What To Do About It - 2 nights
This seminar is about how compressors work with all the other components in the system. A large percentage of compressor failures are not random but are caused by the failure of another component, inadequate previous service, or improper installation. Some of the problems that cause compressor failures are refrigerant system malfunctions, high voltage problems, inadequate low voltage, and failure of compressor support components. This class will guide you in preventing future compressor failures and uncovering the cause of past failures.

SA-700  Duct Design Made Easy - 2 nights
Did you know that over 50% of air conditioners tested in a recent study were found to have airflow rates at less than factory recommended minimums? Low airflow causes poor performance as well as reliability and serviceability problems. A thorough knowledge of air flow dynamics and ductwork design can enable a technician to easily uncover and resolve what many would consider to be difficult problems. Learn to design residential ductwork as well as the do’s and don’ts of ductwork installation.

SA-720  Troubleshooting the Entire Comfort System - 2 nights
Have you ever been on a job that you could not figure out what the problem was? How about when you get a simple complaint like “my a/c does not cool enough” and cannot find fault with the refrigerant system. What could be the problem? Is it the ductwork, the insulation, the way the house is or is not vented? Maybe it's a combination of all three. Learn to solve the problems no one else can figure out.

SR-820  Proper and Efficient Compressor Replacement - 2 nights
The value of a quality compressor replacement is critical to future compressor reliability. When replacing a compressor, the contractor is always caught between working quickly yet effectively. Most contractors use their less experienced technicians to replace compressors to free their journeymen for troubleshooting calls. This increases the chances for expensive callbacks due to inexperience. This class will help the participant understand the do's and don'ts of compressor replacement while getting the job done quickly and effectively.

SR-710  Refrigerant Piping Design - 2 nights
Poorly designed and installed refrigerant line sets can cause a serious reduction of compressor life. In fact, improper line sets are responsible for a large portion of repeat compressor failures. This class is perfect for all levels of installers, servicemen and estimators. You will learn: 1. Why a too large or too small liquid line or suction line is a problem. 2. How do line sets cause compressor and performance problems. 3. When must you use an accumulator to protect the compressor. 4. How to design a system to protect the compressor. 5. How to correct the refrigerant charge for long line sets. 6. How to bury line sets properly.

SA-730  Ductwork & Airflow Diagnosis - 2 nights
As many of us in the industry know the ductwork in many homes is inadequately designed and installed. The airflow problems that this causes effects the comfort of the home, the reliability of the equipment, and the cost of cooling and heating. Many people in the field believe the tools for this type of work are prohibitively expensive. This class provides you with the information needed to accurately troubleshoot airflow with simple inexpensive tools that you may already own. Just think of the extra money your company could make by uncovering and fixing the ductwork problems that already exist out there.

SR-750  Easy Residential Load Calculations - 2 nights
The ability to perform load calculations on your customer’s house is critical in today’s competitive market. Many contractors feel that load calcs are too hard or take too long to perform at the time of the presentation. This class removes those hurdles by simplifying the Manual J load calc process to about 15 minutes for most houses. Best of all you don’t need a computer. Increase you closure rate, ensure the proper size machine for your customer, and have the peace of mind that comes with doing the best job that can be done.
