Diagnose This System

If you answered A. Overcharged: Incorrect - An overcharged system would have pressures higher than it's rated pressures at the current load conditions. This sytem's pressures are actually lower than normal.

If you answered B. Undercharged: Incorrect - Don't feel bad. Many service techs would have called this machine undercharged. We know it's not undercharged because there is too much liquid in the condenser.

If you answered C. Leaky check valve: Incorrect - A leaky check valve would cause the pressure differential between the high and the low side would be diminished. This system has a good pressure differential.

If you answered D. Liquid restriction: Correct - You must really know your stuff.

If you answered E. Dirty indoor coil: Incorrect - This problem would cause the superheat to be too low which it is not.

If you answered F. Leaky reversing valve: Incorrect - If this were the problem the pressure differential between the high and the low side would be diminished. This system has a good pressure differential.

If you answered G. Non-condensables: Incorrect - If this had been the problem pressures would not have been lower than normal.

If you answered H, Leaky compressor valves: Incorrect - If this were the cause the pressure differential between the high and the low side would be diminished. This system has a good pressure differential.
